ERP solutions are constantly evolving, embedding new technology to improve efficiency and enhance functionalities.

Generative AI or agentic AI features prominently in global leading ERP systems.  Agentic AI refers to artificial intelligence systems that can autonomously perceive, decide, and act in pursuit of specific goals — often with minimal or no direct human intervention. Agentic AI can engage in Goal-Directed Behaviour, they have autonomy, can reason, plan, take action and learn. Unlike traditional AI which is passive, still needs a human, narrow and relates to execution of predefined tasks only.

In short, agentic AI is about giving AI systems the initiative — allowing them not just to think or analyze, but to act intelligently on their own. The speed of technological evolution is brisk with many new functionalities available in 2025:

  • SAP’s Ready-to-use Joule Agents launched in 2025 are: Cash Collection Agent, Q&A Agent (for sales/service), Knowledge Creation Agent. In May 2025, a custom Agent builder functionality is available. Launching in Q42025 SAP’s Supply Chain AI Agent will assist in managing inventory and ensuring timely deliveries, acting in conjunction with the sales agent to avoid overpromising. Also, in Q425, SAP will launch a network of autonomous AI business agents capable of executing processes across finance, HR, procurement, and supply chain, marking a significant shift from advisory copilots to autonomous decision-makers.
  • In Oracle Fusion, Agentic AI can perform tasks like document capture, ledger anomaly detection, forecasting predictions, and generation of narrative reports, trend/variance commentary, proposal / project plan generation.
  • NetSuite AI 2025 key developments are multivariate forecasting, AI-powered planning tools (e.g. in Planning & Budgeting module), more intelligent insights and trend/outlier detection.
  • Microsoft Dynamics have embedded agents in Finance, HR, Supply Chain, Project Ops. Generative insights, intelligent process automation (e.g. variance analysis, expense approvals) are part of the roadmap.
