Green IT Back On Agenda

In the past three years we have written some stories on Green IT, but somehow the recession killed most new initiatives, but now there seems to be more discussion about it again as companies finally start to make decisions into energy cost cutting initiatives. As energy prices continue to rise, the business case for green IT becomes more compelling.

Green computing and energy-efficiency initiatives are becoming increasingly important, as the Environmental Protection Agency estimates that the energy consumption of servers and data centers will double by 2012, to more than 100 billion kWh and produce 5% of world co2 output, more than twice of global aviation.

When CIO's chose their next data centre I am sure some element of "green IT" will appear in negotations, as long as it is competitively priced and the standard of service is comparable, there should be no reason why Green IT should not flourish in the next 3 years.
